Internet Speeds

Internet Speeds

The use of Internet service has become a huge part of our lives. Whether you are working from home, streaming movies, playing video games, or shopping online, you need access to the Internet.

At LHTC Broadband, we not only have 100% fiber optic Internet services, but we offer speeds up to 1 Gigabit and all speeds are synchronous; the same upload and download speed. Finding the right Internet speed to match your households need is important.  With the holiday’s right around the corner, new devices such as smart TV’s, tablets, gaming systems, doorbells, cameras, and cellphones are more than likely to be added to your home network. These new devices will likely require Internet access, and the more devices you are using in a household at the same time will likely increase the amount of bandwidth or speed needed to support a seamless experience.

We encourage you to periodically look at the Internet speed you have and see if it meets the needs of your household. To give you a better understanding of the Internet speeds LHTC Broadband offers, we have listed some examples below of what you can do with each speed.

  neXtreme Xcelerator Ultimate Performance Essential
Download Speed 1 Gbps 200 Mbps 100 Mbps 25 Mbps 5 Mbps
Upload 1 Gbps 200 Mbps 100 Mbps 25 Mbps 5 Mbps
(Speed Sync)
Understanding Speed Capabilities:
Essential: Good for daily E-mail’s, Browsing the web. One or two users, not planning on streaming.
Performance: Can stream, but only meant for 1 connected device to stream at a time. 4k Streaming is also not recommended.
Ultimate: Streaming music, videos, PlayStation, Xbox, smart devices will work at this level. 4k content will also stream well starting at this speed. Multiple connections could still impact this speed negatively.
Xcelerator: All of the above, multiple smart connections at a time will work without negative interference; good for families with high usage in social media, streaming TV, playing video games, Netflix, Youtube, etc.
neXtreme: Ability to upload data quickly.  Good for Hosting video/gaming. Great for families with multiple smart devices. (Smart Tv’s, Apple Tv, Chromecast, Google Home. Etc..)

If you are unsure of the current speed you have, contact one of our LHTC Broadband business offices and a customer service representative can go over your current speed and see if an upgrade is needed.

Thanksgiving

When I think of November, I think of Thanksgiving and the traditions that come with it. Maybe for you the tradition is having everyone gather around the table to eat turkey and stuffing, and of course have that slice ofpumpkin pie with whipped cream on top. Eating isn’t the only tradition families might have Thanksgiving Day. Gathering around the TV to watch the Annual Macy’s Day Parade is another tradition!  Beginning in 1924, the Macy’s Day Parade has been entertaining families for years with their enormous balloons, marching bands and celebrity performers. One of the balloons featured in this year’s parade is Grogu, commemorating the beloved Star Wars series The Mandalorian. It measures in at 41 feet tall, 29 feet long, and 37 feet wide. To give you an idea of just how big that is, it’s as tall as a 3-story building, longer than 5 bicycles and wider than 7 taxi cabs! One of the marching bands you will catch in the parade is the Macy’s Great American Marching Band, which brings together the country’s finest high school musicians. Multi-platinum singer/songwriter, winner of American Idol’s sixth season, Jordin Sparks, will also be performing at the parade.  There is so much more to see, so don’t miss the parade airing on NBC, LHTC Broadband channel 11 and 411 (HD) at 9:00 AM.

Another fun tradition is watching football! This year you will find the Buffalo Bills, Detroit Lions, New York Giants, Dallas Cowboys, New England Patriots, and the Minnesota Vikings on the lineup of NFL teams playing on Thanksgiving Day!

Buffalo Bills-Detroit Lions on CBS, LHTC Broadband Channel 2 and 402 (HD) @ 12 :30 PM ET

New York Giants-Dallas Cowboys on FOX, LHTC Broadband Channel 8 and 408 (HD) @ 4:30 PM ET

New England Patriots-Minnesota Vikings on NBC, LHTC Broadband Channel 11 and 411 (HD) @ 8:20 PM ET

If you’re still looking for something to watch, don’t miss the timeless classic, The Wizard of Oz, airing on CBS, LHTC Broadband Channel 2 and 402 (HD)  on Thanksgiving Day at 6:00 PM. Filmed in 1939, The Wizard of Oz takes us to Kansas and after a tornado carries away a house with a young Dorothy and her dog, Toto, in it, an adventure begins in a magical land called Oz. Follow them as they take the Yellow Brick Road toward the Emerald City in search of the Wizard who can get them home. Along the way meeting friends the Scarecrow who needs a brain, a Tin Man missing a heart, and a Cowardly Lion who wants courage. When the Wizard requests the broom of the Wicked Witch of the West, things take a turn. This classic is a great one for the entire family!

Whatever you decide to do this Thanksgiving Day, be sure to enjoy time with family and friends!

Happy Thanksgiving from LHTC Broadband!

How2Media announces that LHTC Broadband will be part of its “World’s Greatest!…” series

How2Media announces that LHTC Broadband will be part of its “World’s Greatest!…” series

How2Media, the producers of the television show “World’s Greatest!…”, announced today that they have recently selected LHTC Broadband to be a part of the popular television series.

While broadband internet service is common in most urban and suburban communities in the United States, rural communities often lack the infrastructure and customer base necessary to entice large companies to invest in the technology. Thanks to companies like LHTC Broadband, this problem is becoming a thing of the past. With a history dating back to 1908, LHTC Broadband has certainly earned the trust of its customers and the respect of competitors all over the country. “We think their story will be meaningful as well as educational to our viewers,” said Kyle Freeman, Executive Producer of the show.

As part of the show, How2Media sent a film crew to spend time at the Company’s facilities in Donegal, Pennsylvania to find out what the story behind the story is with this great and growing company, and to show the “World’s Greatest!…” viewers why LHTC Broadband was selected as the best in their category, and therefore featured on the show. “We are honored to have been selected by the “World’s Greatest!…” and we look forward to telling our story,” said the Company’s President & CEO, James J. Kail.

“World’s Greatest!…” is a thirty-minute show dedicated to highlighting the world’s greatest companies, products, places, and people. Each show is a fast-paced tour around the world featuring behind the scenes footage, informative interviews, and exciting visuals.

How2Media is a 21st Century television production company. Their award-winning programming can be seen on national cable channels and local network affiliates across the country. For more information on How2Media and their show lineup, please visit how2mediaproductions.com

Episode 323 will air on July 9th and July 23rd at 3:30 p.m. Check your local tv listings for channel information.

Hang Up on Spoofing

What Is Spoofing?

Spoofing is when a caller deliberately falsifies the information transmitted to your caller ID display to disguise their identity. Scammers often use neighbor spoofing so it appears that an incoming call is coming from a local number, or spoof a number from a company or a government agency that you may already know and trust. If you answer, they use scam scripts to try to steal your money or valuable personal information, which can be used in fraudulent activity.

Watch the video to the right and visit fcc.gov/spoofing to learn more about spoofing and how to avoid being scammed.

If you think you’ve been the victim of a spoofing scam, you can file a complaint with the FCC.

How to Avoid Spoofing?

You may not be able to tell right away if an incoming call is spoofed. Be extremely careful about responding to any request for personal identifying information.

Don’t answer calls from unknown numbers. If you answer such a call, hang up immediately.

If you answer the phone and the caller – or a recording – asks you to hit a button to stop getting the calls, you should just hang up. Scammers often use this trick to identify potential targets.

Do not respond to any questions, especially those that can be answered with “Yes” or “No.”

Never give out personal information such as account numbers, Social Security numbers, mother’s maiden names, passwords or other identifying information in response to unexpected calls or if you are at all suspicious.

If you get an inquiry from someone who says they represent a company or a government agency, hang up and call the phone number on your account statement, in the phone book, or on the company’s or government agency’s website to verify the authenticity of the request. You will usually get a written statement in the mail before you get a phone call from a legitimate source, particularly if the caller is asking for a payment.

Use caution if you are being pressured for information immediately.

If you have a voice mail account with your phone service, be sure to set a password for it. Some voicemail services are preset to allow access if you call in from your own phone number. A hacker could spoof your home phone number and gain access to your voice mail if you do not set a password.

Talk to your phone company about call blocking tools and check into apps that you can download to your mobile device. The FCC allows phone companies to block robocalls by default based on reasonable analytics. More information about robocall blocking is available at fcc.gov/robocalls.

Remember to check your voicemail periodically to make sure you aren’t missing important calls and to clear out any spam calls that might fill your voicemail box to capacity.
